Experts agree that kids should receive 60 minutes of moderate to vigourous exercise most days of the week. In class we like to follow the FITT Principle.
Frequency (almost every day)
Intensity (at your target heart rate)
Time (60 minutes a day)
Type (cardiorespiratory and weight bearing activities)

Unfortunately we do not have enough time in the day for all students to receive the required amount of exercise at school. Therefore, we have to build in exercise to our everyday lives. Here are some great ideas to do at home:
1. Park in a farther away parking spot at the grocery or mall. A little extra walking each way will help.
2. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Going up and down the steps will help strengthen opposite muscle groups.
3. Do simple exercises while watching TV. It is easy to do stretches, sit ups, push ups, leg lifts, etc. while watching yoru favorite show.
4. Join a team. We have cross country, basketball, and cheerleading at school. You can find soccer, baseball, softball, and football teams around the
community.
5. Exercise as a family. Instead of sitting inside playing video games, get outside and play catch, take a walk, toss frisbee, etc.
6. In colder months be active inside. Go rollerskating, bowling, to the gym, or even a walk around the mall.
7. If the trip is short, walk!!!! Save gas and the environment.
8. Encourage your son or daughter to limit their TV and video games. Be an example, kids love to exerxcise with their parents.
